Before selling a vehicle, it is usually worth correcting minor faults and restoring a clean, well-cared-for appearance without unnecessary expense. KERRY® automotive chemicals and car care products can help with each stage.
A small cooling-system leak can be sealed with KERRY® Radiator Stop Leak: KR-330 liquid additive or KR-130 powder sealant. Add the product through the radiator filler neck or upper radiator hose, then start the engine and let it run with the air conditioner switched off for 20–25 minutes. This allows the engine to reach operating temperature and the coolant to circulate through the complete system. The sealant travels with the coolant, reaches the leak and forms a durable seal.
Important: Never add radiator stop leak to the cooling-system expansion tank.
KERRY® KR-375 Engine Anti-Smoke Additive helps reduce blue exhaust smoke caused by oil consumption. Add it through the engine oil filler, then allow the engine to idle for 10–15 minutes. This treatment is not a substitute for repairing a serious mechanical fault.
KERRY® KR-380 Increasing Engine Compression Additive helps improve sealing where compression has fallen because of engine wear. Add it through the engine oil filler, then allow the engine to idle for 10–15 minutes.
Once the source of any leaks has been corrected, clean the engine bay. Choose the cleaner according to the main type of contamination. Solvent-free KERRY® KR-515 and KR-915 cleaners use effective surfactants to remove road dirt and dust, while solvent-based KERRY® KR-535 and KR-935 engine cleaners are particularly effective against oily deposits. Always protect sensitive electrical components and follow the product directions before rinsing.
Dust and dirt collect on the air-conditioning evaporator during use, creating favorable conditions for mold and bacteria and often causing an unpleasant odor. KERRY® KR-916 A/C System Cleaner treats the ventilation ducts and evaporator area. Spray the ducts, wait five minutes, then remove the cabin air filter. With recirculation on and the climate-control fan at maximum speed, spray the cleaner into the air intake, usually located in the front passenger footwell. Let the system run for 10–15 minutes, then ventilate the cabin.
Clean the inside of the windows with KR-922 foaming Glass Cleaner or KR-520 trigger-spray Dirt and Bug Glass Cleaner.
Use KERRY® KR-978 Velours and Fabric Stain Remover on lipstick, shoe polish, oil, grease, ink, felt-tip pen, marker, adhesive, paint and chewing-gum stains. Test on an inconspicuous area first. Important: Do not use this stain remover on leather.
For lightly soiled upholstery and the headliner, use KERRY® KR-575 Velours and Fabric Interior Cleaner. The surface remains almost dry after treatment, which saves drying time. Heavier soiling is best removed with KERRY® KR-979, KR-975 or KR-977 upholstery cleaner; allow treated seats to dry fully, then vacuum them.
Treat plastic panels with KR-905 or KR-505 for a matt finish, or KR-908 for a gloss finish. Apply the cleaner and polish to a microfiber cloth first, then wipe the panel. This gives precise coverage and prevents silicone overspray from reaching the glass.
Door trim often combines fabric and plastic. KERRY® KR-974 Active Foam Interior Cleaner is suitable for fabric, plastic and glass: spray the foam onto the surface, allow it to work for 1–2 minutes, then wipe it away with a soft cloth. Apply dashboard polish to plastic parts after cleaning.
KERRY® KR-981, KR-581 and KR-281-1 Leather Cleaner and Conditioner products remove dirt while natural waxes and conditioning agents help keep leather soft and supple. Regular care protects upholstery against premature aging, drying and cracking.
For a pressure washer, use KERRY® KR-307 Pressure Washer Car Shampoo. For hand washing, choose KR-270-1 or KR-270-2 concentrate, or KR-272-2 formulated for metallic and pearl finishes. Wash out of direct sunlight, work from the top down and rinse thoroughly.
Refresh unpainted plastic bumpers and moldings with KERRY® KR-961 Bumper Spray Paint, available in four colors. If black exterior plastic only looks faded and does not require refinishing, restore its deeper color with KERRY® KR-280 Black Bumper Unpainted Plastic Restoration Polisher.
Polishing after washing restores gloss and improves the vehicle’s appearance. Use KR-190 Scratch Remover on visible clearcoat scratches that have not penetrated to the primer. KR-251 Body Renew Car Wax helps restore dull paint covered with fine wash marks. For routine protection, choose KR-250 Carnauba Car Wax, a color-matched KR-260 wax, or KR-252 for metallic and pearl finishes. Always work on clean, cool paint and test an inconspicuous area first.
Tire dressing gives clean sidewalls a neat, finished appearance and helps repel dust and dirt. KERRY® KR-951 Foamy Tire Cleaner provides a lighter sheen, cleans at the same time and can be applied to wet tires. KR-953 and KR-550 Tire Shiner provide a richer gloss and should be applied only to clean, dry sidewalls. Never apply tire dressing to the tread or braking surfaces.
The KERRY® range makes it possible to correct minor defects, clean the cabin and restore the exterior efficiently and without excessive cost. Careful preparation helps the vehicle look clean, fresh and well maintained when it is presented for sale.
