How Does an Engine Oil Stop Leak Work?
Engine gaskets and oil seals gradually lose elasticity, while rotating shaft seals also experience mechanical wear. An oil-system stop-leak additive conditions hardened elastomer seals so that they soften and recover enough to seal minor seepage. It acts on compatible seals without changing the intended performance of the engine oil.
What It Can and Cannot Repair
The treatment may reduce oil loss and postpone seal replacement, but it cannot restore a torn seal or compensate for severe mechanical wear. Continue to monitor the leak and repair worn components if seepage returns.
Conditioning valve-stem seals may also reduce oil entering the combustion chamber. The product will not correct oil consumption caused by worn cylinder walls, pistons, rings or other mechanical engine damage.
